Stephen Klapperich, for fifty years a prominent resident of the New Munich vicinity, passed away at his home there last Wednesday at the age of 66 years. Death was caused by dropsy.
Mr. Klapperich was born in Prussia, July 30, 1849, coming to this country with his parents while still a young boy. After living in Michigan and Wisconsin the family moved to a farm six miles north of the present village of New Munich in the year 1865, where they lived for eight years. Mr. Klapperich then 24 years of age, moved to New Munich, where he has made his home ever since; he has been engaged in the mercantile and saloon business.
In 1874 the deceased was married to Miss Lena (Helen) Borchers and sixteen children were born to the union, eight of whom are now living. Mrs. Ben Dierkhising of New Munich; John, at home; Annie, housekeeper for Fr. Luke at New Munich; Timotheus, Chicago; Nick of St. Cloud; Rose, in the convent of St. Joseph; Hilda and Bernard at home. Funeral services were conducted at the church of the Immaculate Conception, New Munich, on Friday morning at nine o'clock, Rev. Fr. Luke officiating
