Adrian Paul Barthle

(January 14, 1946 - April 27, 2021)

Adrian Barthle was born on January 14, 1946, to Andrew and Leone Barthle in Watertown, South Dakota. He was their third of eight children. He passed from this life on April 27 2021 to join his parents, his sister Colette, his brother Damian, and his niece Melissa in the Garden Of Paradise -- his kind of place. Adrian demonstrated his love for all life with his generosity, compassion, and empathy for those in need. He had a great reputation in Sioux Falls for excellence in three areas:  he was a master gardener, a master baker, and up until his health had begun failing, he was a master house painter.

He developed his gardening skills as a child and progressed from weeding the family garden to creating a gigantic garden/orchard on the Sioux Falls family home property. He grew many vegetables, watermelon, cantaloupe, pears, peaches, apples, and strawberries. He had a bumper crop of produce every year, most of which he distributed by wagon to neighbors, senior citizens, and anyone else who closely followed his harvest schedule and got to him soon enough to plead for leftovers.

He mastered his baking skills from his mother, who was a descendant from German bakers. His yeast products were remarkable. He made breads, cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, sweet breads and other traditional baked goods. His banana bread was highly desired. He made traditional, with or without mini chocolate chips, with or without nuts and with or without his secret ingredient, vinegar. Again, he generously gave his products to any who wanted them including local businesses and neighbors, family and seniors.

He left a striking visual legacy with his occupation as a house painter. He owned his own painting business and specialized in painting Victorian style homes. He hand painted them using traditional colors and style. While his garden and bakery goods brought temporary pleasure to many, his house painting skills leave a beautiful legacy of breathtaking homes.

He was kind to animals, plants, people, and especially those in need of compassion. He loved his cats, and protected animal habitats for those who were living outside. He was loved and respected by many.

He is survived by his brothers Skip and Pierre, his sisters Deirdre, Andrea, and Melania, and several nieces and nephews.
