Obituary for Melissa Dawn Barthle
BARTHLE Melissa Dawn, 37, entered into her eternal life on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 while at Norton Suburban Hospital. She was born on July 11, 1977 in Louisville and became a part of Damian and Janice Barthle’s family in 1981. She is preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents.
Because of her life experiences, family had so many different meanings to Melissa; it included her parents, her relatives from other states; caregivers, direct support professionals, teachers, and friends in Louisville who became her other family. Everyone she touched in the world helped her have a meaningful life, and all these people continue to cherish Melissa’s memory.
Melissa will be remembered for a lot of things: her art, volunteering, advocacy, and especially her overall love of life and determination to live to the fullest everyday, but the lasting impression she would want us to remember would be her mission in life, her desire to help people. She spent her days always looking for ways to help those around her. She truly cared and that can be attributed to all the love, care, support and guidance given to her by so many supporters. Her parents would like to say a very special thank you to the staff at the Mattingly Center (formerly the Cerebral Palsy School) and Community Living Inc., and everyone that took such a big part in giving her the chance to show us who she was.
A memorial visitation will be 4-8pm Friday, February 27, 2015 with a time to share your memories of Melissa starting at 6pm at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. A memorial mass will take place 11am Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Athanasius Church, 5915 Outer Loop, with a reception to follow at the church.
