Elmer Joseph Notsch, 79, of Hines, MN, died Friday, May 14, 2010 at his home in Hines. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Blackduck with Rev. Fr. Luis Buitron officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 18 from 6-8 p.m. at Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel, with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. & a prayer service at 7 p.m, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 372 of Blackduck. Active pallbearers will be Gerald Notsch, Allen Notsch, Marvin Notsch, Leon Notsch, Roger Notsch and Mark Notsch. Honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion Post 372 Honor Guard.

He was born August 16, 1930 in St. Joseph, Minnesota to Joseph M. and Bertha (Pfannenstein) Notsch. He attended school through the eighth grade at the Fisher Hill Country School near St. Joseph. He entered into the U.S. Army May 22, 1953. He served overseas in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on May 15, 1955 with the rank of Corporal. He married Lillian Schmitz July 6, 1955 in St. Martin, Minnesota. He dairy farmed in St. Joseph from 1955 to 1969 and then moved to Blackduck and was a dairy farmer until he retired in 1995. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and restoring Farmall tractors. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Blackduck, and the American Legion Post #372 of Blackduck.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Notsch, of Hines; children, Gerald (Colleen) Notsch of Blackduck, Janet (Dennis) Shingler of Blackduck, Allen Notsch of Blackduck, Marvin (Lori) Notsch of Blackduck, Leon (Terry) Notsch of Blackduck, Roger (Lucinda) Notsch of Volborg, MT and Mark Notsch of Blackduck; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Arlene (Joe) Raab and Mary (Jim) Voller, both of St. Joseph; three brothers, Wilford (Margie) Notsch and Jerome (Dorothy) Notsch, both of St. Joseph and Richard Notsch of Blackduck and a sister-in-law, Joyce Notsch of Foley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bertha Notsch; two brothers, Ray and Robert; a sister, Betty Counter and a brother-in-law, Oliver Counter.
