Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Elmer J. Wehlage, age 81, of St. Cloud. Elmer passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery with Military Honors. Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and after 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish prayers will be held at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus at 6:00 p.m., St. Cloud Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Fr. Pierz Assembly #530 will stand Honor Guard from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Elmer was born on June 25, 1928 in Meire Grove, Minnesota to Henry and Mary (Ostendorf) Wehlage. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Elmer married Joyce Nickols on September 17, 1955 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. He attended Dunwoody Institute and was trained as a printer. He then worked in Redwood Falls for 10 years and the St. Cloud Times for 25 years before retiring in 1991. Elmer was a past Grand Knight of Fr. O'Sullivan Council in Redwood Falls and also a member of the St. Cloud Council #961, St. Cloud Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Fr. Pierz Assembly #530, and the Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428. He enjoyed gardening, vacationing, dancing and the outdoors. Elmer loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce, children, Paul (Susan), Anne (Rick) Groetsch, Mark (Paula), Mary, David (Barbara), Thomas (Brenda); grandchildren, Jeffrey, James, Allison, Jay, Samantha, Jocelin, Paige, Hannah, Henry, Greta, Joseph, Lee, Erin and Mara; brothers and sisters, Raymond (Joan), Patricia (Stan) Rausch, Norman (Tillie), Vern (Jane); and brother-in-law Robert Welters.

He is preceded in death by his infant sons, Gregory and Michael; parents; brother, Werner; sisters, Karen and Bernice. A Special Thank You to the staff at the St. Cloud Hospital for the care given to Elmer.
