Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 16 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Greenwald for Gene Poepping who died Saturday at the Melrose Area Hospital in Melrose. Rev. Tom Becker will officiate with private inurnment in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Thursday followed by St. Andrews Catholic Aid rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Gene Poepping was born October 6, 1930 in Melrose, Minnesota to Gerhard and Zitta (Thull) Poepping. He resided in Greenwald until 1993 and then lived with family members. Since July, 2002 he had been a resident at Das Goldene Wohnheim in New Munich. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and St. Andrews Catholic Aid.
Survivors include Alverne (Arlene) Poepping of St. Joseph, Wilbert (Donna) Poepping of Avon, Gilbert (Rosie) Poepping of Alexandria, Ronald (Bernice) Poepping of Cold Spring, Carol (Dennis) Deters of Elrosa, and Alice (Tom) Illies of Andover; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Marilyn Wolbeck and Rosie Klaphake.
