Louise M. Gieske, age 72 of Melrose, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Louise Mary Tiemann was born April 23, 1937, in Melrose to Andrew and Marie (Blenker) Tiemann. On May 1, 1956, she married Valentine "Val" Gieske in Melrose. The couple farmed north of Melrose until retiring in 1997. Louise enjoyed ice fishing, playing cards, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family and grandkids. Louise had only one favorite TV show, "Days of Our Lives." She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and the Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council.
Survivors include her husband, Val Gieske of Melrose; children, Randy (Lynn) Gieske of Sauk Centre, Donny Gieske of Sauk Centre, Ronny (Kristi) Gieske of Sauk Centre, Debra Gieske of Melrose, and Robert (Cheri) Gieske of Melrose; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Marie Tiemann; and children, Judy and William Gieske. Serving as casket bearers were Randy, Donny, Ronny, Robert, Timothy and Andrew Gieske. Cross bearer was Taylor Gieske and scripture bearer was Jennifer Gieske. Honorary bearers were Carrie Ahrens, Marie Kampsen, Irene Boeckermann, Izzy Ostendorf, Rita Niehaus, Irene Tiemann, Leona Blenker, Darlene Stevens, Mary Niehaus, Carol Hinnenkamp, Darlene Bussmann, Carol Niehaus and Betty Thieschafer. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
