Lloyd Edward Kinsella, 81, formerly of Sauk Centre, died on April 9, 2008. A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, April 12, 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Madison, S.D., with internment in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Lloyd was born in Sauk Centre, on July 31, 1926, to John and Mary (Berscheit) Kinsella. He grew up in Sauk Centre where he attended country schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Nevada and toured in the South Pacific. He worked on the U.S.S. Nevada during and after the atomic bomb testing of Bikini Atoll and the Able Baker tests in 1945. After the service, he returned to Sauk Centre and began work for Red Owl as a meat cutter, then became market manager and meat buyer. He married Bette Hintzen on Aug. 2, 1950, in Sauk Centre. He was a co-owner of the Red Owl in Madison. He instructed high school Future Farmers of America students in meat knowledge. He taught meat cutting and management in the Pipestone Vocational School. In 1979, he was hired by Nash Finch as a zone manager in Aberdeen, S.D. and Sioux Falls, S.D. He retired in 1987. He was a member of the Madison Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, Junior Chamber and the Madison Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife, Bette of Sioux Falls; four daughters, Linda (Steve) Jensen of Lake Preston, S.D., Karen (Lyle) Mader of Madison, Debra (Don) Boldt of Tea, S.D. and Diane (Dan) Rea of Minneapolis; one son, Mike (Anna) Kinsella, Tea, S.D.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bernard Kinsella of Cheyenne, Wyo., Paul Berscheit of Prior Lake and John Berscheit of Sauk Centre; three sisters, Gertrude Weilenberg, Irene Marthaler and Katherine Schmeising, all of Sauk Centre.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert; son, Jack.
