Norbert L. Beste, age 80 of Sauk Centre, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, Dec. 4, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Todd Schneider officiated with interment following in St. Alexius Cemetery in West Union.
Norbert Lawrence Beste was born on Nov. 22, 1928, to Joseph and Mildred (Frederick) Beste on their family farm in Todd County. He was married to Mae Olson on Oct. 18, 1950, at St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union. He farmed with his parents until 1969 when he and his family moved to Sauk Centre. He was employed as a salesman at General Trading Company (GTC) in Sauk Centre from 1965 until 1975. He was employed as a salesman at Engle Fabrication from 1975 until 1993 when he retired. He was employed part-time at Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) from 1995 until 2008. Norbert enjoyed working in his yard, traveling and helping his children with their home improvement projects.
Norbert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mae of Sauk Centre; four children, Donna Jenc of Alexandria, Alan (Donna L.) Beste of Boone, Iowa, Julie (Peter) Olmscheid of Alexandria and Pat (Jill) Beste of Brainerd; six grandchildren, Amy (Ed) Wielenberg of Grey Eagle, Ryan Beste of Eden Prairie, Justin Olmscheid of Madison, Wis., Troy Beste a student at the University of North Dakota, Kyle Beste a student at Iowa State University, Megan Beste of Boone, Iowa; and one great-granddaughter, Trysta Wielenberg. Norbert is also survived by his brother, Howard (Geraldine) Beste of Sauk Centre and his sister, Eleanor "Tootie" Engle of Sauk Centre.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Hamilton and Dorothy Mager; brother, Harland; son, Duane on March 18, 1969; and grandson, Jeffrey Jenc on Nov. 2, 1989. Serving as casket bearers were his grandchildren, Amy Wielenberg, Ryan Beste, Justin Olmscheid, Troy Beste, Kyle Beste and Megan Beste. Serving as cross bearer was Donna L. Beste and scripture bearer was Peter Olmscheid. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
