Lorraine Marie Merten, 83, of Alexandria, formerly of Sauk Centre, died on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 7, at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria. Reverend Father Steven Binsfeld was the celebrant. Interment followed in St. Paul's Cemetery at Sauk Centre.
Lorraine was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Sauk Centre to William and Elizabeth (Otto) Dickhaus. She was raised and schooled in Sauk Centre. After graduating from high school Lorraine worked for Swift & Company poultry processors. On Oct. 29, 1946, Lorraine was united in marriage to Ralph Merten at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple made their home on various farms around Sauk Centre. They retired from farming in 1992 and Ralph died a year later in 1993. In 1994 Lorraine moved from the farm to a home in Alexandria. She later made her home at Bethel Manor in Alexandria. When she was able Lorraine enjoyed keeping a large flower and vegetable garden.
Lorraine is survived by her brother, Raymond (Ione) Dickhaus of Alexandria; her sister, Marlene (Donald) Justin of St. Cloud; and many nieces, nephews and cousins
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Ralph Merten. Casket bearers included James Wagner, Sr., Matthew Wagner, Jeff Keller, Randy Retherford, Steve Andree and Ryan Wagner. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
