George Henry Schneider

George H. Schneider, 98, of Meire Grove, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at his home in New Munich. Funeral services were Thursday, July 2 at Saint John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove. Rev. Ken Popp officiated, with interment in the parish cemetery.
George Schneider was born May 20, 1900, in Grove Township, Stearns County, to Henry and Paulina (Primus) Schneider. He married Mathilda Wieling on October 8, 1929, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. The couple farmed east of Meire Grove until retiring and moving to Meire Grove in 1960. He was a church trustee for many years and was a clerk for Country School 180 for over 20 years. He was also Meire Grove City Council Treasurer for 15 years. They moved to Parkview Center in Melrose in June of 1995 and then George moved to Das Goldene Wohnheim in New Munich on May 9, 1998. He was a member of Saint John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove. He was also a member of the Catholic Aid Society, the St. Joseph's Men's Society and the Poor Souls.
Survivors include children: Doris Herdering of St. Rosa, Raymond Schneider and his wife, Carol, of Meire Grove, Denis Schneider and his wife, Emily, of Meire Grove, Alvin Schneider and his wife, Dorothy, of Melrose, Celestine Schneider and his wife, Leona, of Willmar, James Schneider and his wife, Carol, of Bemidji, 32 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mathilda, who died March 23, 1996; son, Ervin Schneider; daughter, Loretta Kramer; brothers, John, Joseph and Hubert Schneider; sisters, Catherine Schneider and Sr. Josina Schneider, OSB and grandsons, David Herdering and Billy Kramer. Pallbearers were grandchildren. Crossbearer was Ervin Herdering. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Saint Joseph's Men's Society.
