Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Elmer J. Eichers, age 90, who died Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Entombment will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring and from 9:00 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church. The Catholic Order of Foresters will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by Parish Prayers Monday evening at the Wenner Funeral Home.
Elmer was born in Cold Spring, MN to Leo and Hedwig (Leither) Eichers. He married Georgina Thielmann on September 2, 1940 in St. Boniface Church, Cold Spring. Elmer loved and cherished his family. He worked for a few years at the Cold Spring Granite Company and farmed for 17 years before the Lord helped him realize he wasnt a farmer! Elmer was an Insurance Representative for RAM for 25 years and also Wakefield Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. Elmer was ordained a Permanent Deacon on June 21, 1985. During his 17 years as Deacon, he took great joy in the many baptisms and weddings he performed and visiting with shut-ins in the area. Elmer loved visiting with family and friends, whittling, woodworking, writing, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Diocese of St. Cloud Deaconate.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Georgina; children, Dorothy (Ed) Peine of Princeton, Janet (Frank) Neu of Rockville, Marion (Daniel) Mumm of Cold Spring, Catherine (Terry) Lenz of Nevis, Michael (Carol) of Cold Spring, David (Dots) of Cold Spring, Robert (Jan) of Valley Center, CA, Arthur (Linda) of Spring Hill, Rita (Mick) Garding of Paynesville, Ralph (Diane) of Cold Spring, Mary Beth (Dale) Woodrow of Aitkin, and t Joseph; 38 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; siblings, Virgil Eichers of Sauk Rapids, Mary Gertken of Cold Spring, Daniel Eichers of Avon and Florence Rausch of Avon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Joseph; siblings, Harold, Leone Theisen and Ted. Memorials are preferred to the St. Boniface School Endowment Fund.
