Leo M. Stang age 99 of Belgrade, died Sunday at the Belgrade Nursing Home.The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 5 p.m., Catholic Aid Rosary at 7 p.m., and Parish Prayers at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will be held in the church cemetery.

Leo Michael Stang was born February 4, 1903 in Marystown, Minnesota. He was the son of Peter and Elizabeth (Mahowald) Stang. Leo grew up on a family farm near Marystown, where he attended school. On October 4, 1927 Leo was married to Hilda Catherine Spanier at the St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin. Following their marriage they farmed near Jordan Minnesota from 1927 to 1932, and near Belgrade from 1932 to 1977 when they retired and moved into Belgrade. Leo was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where he had served as an usher. He also served on the organizing committee for the annual sausage supper, and helped with the original sausage recipe. He was a member of the building committee when the new church building was constructed. Leo had been a member of the Catholic Aid since 1926 of which he served as the Financial Secretary from 1955 to 1988, and he was also a member of the Crosier Apostalate. For 30 years he served as Crow Lake Township Supervisor, 20 years as a member of the County Township Board, and 20 years as a member of the State Township Board.

Leo is survived by his children, Luella (and Clarence) Lieser of Belgrade, Ruth Stalberger of Belgrade, Mary Jane (and Jerry) Joseph of Corcoran, Mary Joan Walz of Anoka, Carol (and Dave) Beberger of Ramsey; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; Brother, Alois (and Mae) Stang of St. Paul; daughter-in-law, Muriel Stang of Belgrade; and sister-in-law, Alvina Stang of Shakopee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Robert Stang; grandson, Joseph Stalberger; brothers, Nick, John, Phil, and Albert; sisters, Ceil Zahn and Frances Stang; and sons-in-law, Gene Stalberger and Ray Walz. Arrangements made by Johnson Funeral Home, Belgrade 254-8262.
