Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15th, 2008 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Dorothy M. Danzl-Luehmann, age 81, of St. Cloud. Dorothy passed away peacefully August 12th, 2008 at her home. The Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Private burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Friends and family may call between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Thursday (TODAY) and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
Dorothy was born on July 30th, 1927 in Pearl Lake, MN to August and Exilda (Picard) Schmit. She lived in Rockville and graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School in 1946. Dorothy was a Snow Queen candidate in 1946. She married Richard J. Danzl on June 2, 1949 at St. Mary's Cathedral and together they raised seven children. Dorothy was widowed in 1981. She was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary, Secular Order of Franciscans, Daughters of Isabella, Shalom Ministry and a weekly adorer at St. Anthony's Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. Dorothy was loved by all the neighborhood children and did daycare in her home for many years. She enjoyed traveling (especially pilgrimages to Medjugorje and Guadalupe shrines), annual family campouts, family celebrations, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 1995 Dorothy reconnected with a former friend Donald Luehmann. After a long distance courtship they married on August 1st, 1997. Together they traveled and enjoyed the local arts.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Donald; children Sharon Soyka of St. Cloud, Gerry of Ely, Dale (Cathy) of St. Cloud, Dianne (Rick) Christen of St. Cloud, David (LaVonne) of Champlin, Mary (Allen) Jungels of St. Cloud, Donna (Jim) Hartung of St. Cloud; 3 step-daughters, Pamela (Dan) Henderson of Sonora, CA, Karen (Richard) Gila of Fremont CA, Laura (Steven) Goode of Livermore, CA; 13 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 5 great-step-grandchildren; brother, David Schmit of Minneapolis and sisters, Bertha Weber of San Carlos, CA, Darlene Hapka of White Bear Lake.
Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Richard; one brother and three sisters. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Priests for Life.
