Eugene L. "Gene" Froehling, age 69, of Rogers. A gentle man and a gentleman.
Mass of Christian Burial, will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 9, 2008, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 9100 93rd Avenue North, Brooklyn Park, MN for Eugene "Gene" L. Froehling who died, Tuesday, August 5, 2008 in the presence of his family after a long courageous battle with cancer. Burial will be in the St. Vincent Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 PM Friday at the Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, 34 Second St. NE, Osseo. Prayer Service 7:30 PM Friday. Visitation Saturday at the funeral home after 9 AM.
Gene was born on July 23, 1939 in Watkins, MN to Matthew and Frances (Dockendorf) Froehling. He married Margaret Dockendorf on October 15, 1960 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN, Gene loved baseball, as he played for many years on the Watkins amateur team, coached Little League and Senior Babe Ruth Baseball, and he loved following the Twins. He worked for Lakeland Engineering and Equipment Company in Golden Valley for 46 years retiring in 1994 as President. Gene was a member of the Watkins Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus Council 3656, and the Cold Spring American Legion Post 455. Gene will be dearly missed by his family, his loved ones, and the many people he touched in his life and work.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Fabian Nohner.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Margaret of Rogers; children, Paul, Minnetonka; Mary Beth, Robbinsdale; Patrick (Virginia Walker), Salt Lake City, UT and Lisa (Tony Rakow), Arden Hills; three step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; siblings, Bernice Nohner, Melrose; Eldred (Leila) Froehling, Watkins; Donald (Corrine) Froehling, Watkins; Joseph (Jean) Froehling, Excelsior; Marge (Doug) Fobbe, Maple Lake; and Dianne (Phillip) Schreiner, Tomah, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and family. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of the Humphrey Cancer Center as well as the North Memorial Residential Hospice.
