Mass of Christian Burial for Arnold (Arnie) Herzog, age 78, of Melrose, will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Sacred Heart Church, Freeport. Inurnment will take place in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 6 9 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2008 and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. Monday. Arnold passed away December 19, 2008 surround-ed by his family, at his home.
Arnie was born November 14, 1930 in Melrose, Minne-sota to Herman and Dorothy (Nienaber) Herzog. On August 30, 1956, he married Verla Middendorf at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. The couple farmed near Freeport for 33 years. Due to Arnies illness, they retired from farming in 1989. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. Prior to his illness you would find Arnie working on his farm, fishing on any one of numerous lakes or hunting with his family and friends. He enjoyed reminiscing the good old days with his buddies over a glass of beer at the local taverns.
Survivors include his wife, Verla; his children, Stan (Jan) Herzog, Albany and Sandra Herzog, St. Cloud; grand-children Jaron, Shari, Lauren, Matt, Adam, Ian; brothers and their wives Herb, Werner (Jane), Ray (Laurie), and sister-in-law Joyce Herzog.
Arnie now rests peacefully with his parents; son Steve; brothers Elmer and Reynold; sisters-in-law Genny, Joyce, and Myrtle Herzog; and his mother and father-in-law Happy and Bernie Middendorf.
