Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Leander "Lee" Ludwig, age 87, who died Thursday at his home. Entombment will be in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Parish prayers will be at 6:00 p.m., at 8:00 p.m. the Cold Spring American Legion and VFW will have a prayers service followed by a rosary with the St. Nicholas Men's Society and the Catholic Aid Association.
Lee was born in Eden Valley, MN to John and Gertrude (Nistler) Ludwig. He married Rita Schreifels on March 4, 1946 in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Cold Spring. Lee served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater from 1942-1945. He farmed in the St. Nicholas area all his life. Lee loved spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing and taking trips to Duluth to watch the ships. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, St. Nicholas Men's Society, Catholic Aid Association and a life member of Cold Spring American Legion and VFW.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Rita; children, John (Sandra) of Waite Park, Sharon (Tom) Steil of St. Joseph, Paul (Trish) of St. Nicholas, Judy (Terry) Czech of Cold Spring and Bob (Julie) of Waconia; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joseph Ludwig; sisters, Eleanor Ruprecht, Isabelle Steman, Millie Otterness, Adeline "Pat" Kielty and brother, Herb Ludwig.
