Joseph Aloys Nistler

Alois Nistler died at the home of his son John in Watkins [MN] Saturday April 26, 1924 from the infirmities of age.

The deceased was born Nov. 1, 1837 in Bavaria, Germany and came to America with his parents when six years old. In 1830 he was married in Wisconsin to Elizabeth Hendelmier. To their union, 14 children were born seven of whom joined the great majority before their father and Mrs. Nistler died in 1909.

The surviving children are Joseph, Charles and Anton of Eden Valley; John of Watkins; Alois G. of North Dakota; Michael of St. Paul and Mrs. Strack of Arkansas. Besides the children, 88 grandchildren and 64 great grandchildren survive. His early life, and for four years after his marriage, he lived at Watertown, Wis. He spent a year in Des Moines and 7 years in Clark county Missouri. He then moved to Minnesota here he spent 20 years in St. Joe [St. Joseph, MN] and Luxemburg [MN]. He later moved to Oklahoma and Arkansas but returned to Minnesota after the death of his wife in 1909.

He was one of the early pioneers of the Northwest, an industrious and honorable man who had hosts of friends wherever he made his home. "Requiem mass was celebrated in the Catholic church at Watkins and interment was made in the Assumption cemetery at Eden Valley Tuesday morning. The relatives have the sympathy of their many friends.
