Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2008 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Leo C. Buettner, age 81, of St. Cloud, who passed away peacefully on May 15, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. Reverend Bernard Gruenes will officiate. Burial will take place in Church of the Annunciation Parish Cemetery in Mayhew Lake. Relatives and friends may call from 4-9 p.m. on Sunday, May 18 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish Prayers will be at 5 p.m. followed by the Eagles Aerie 622 at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the church.
Leo was born July 24, 1926 in Blue Grass, MN to John and Rose (Sand) Buettner. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Gloria Petron on October 16, 1952 at Church of the Annunciation in Mayhew Lake. Leo was a builder in the St. Cloud area for many years. He developed the area surrounding Westwood Elementary, known as Ridgewood Estates. Leo designed and built St. Michael's Church where he served as Vice President on the Parish Council. He was also a member of St. Cloud Eagles Aerie 622.
Leo is survived by Gloria, his wife of 55 years, children Joseph (Toni) of Colorado Springs, CO, Sandra (Fred) Lieser of Albany, Julie (Myron) Corrigan of Foley, Michael of Colorado Springs, CO, Brian (Sue) of Clear Lake, Steven (Jamie) of Amarillo, TX, Jeffery (Jodi) of Mankato, Brenda Lee Fisk of Cokato, Belinda Kay (Dan) Larson of Spearfish, SD, Scott (Molly) of Duluth and Cory (Naashom) of Stillwater, 30 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, brothers Leander, Gerald, Wilbert and sister Pauline Michlitsch.
Preceding him in death were his parents, infant daughter Lonnie Jean, sisters Christine Hadrich, Hermanda Sebasta, Valeria Bryce and infant sister Geraldine. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association.
