A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Elmdale for Leo Blonigen, age 81, who died Friday morning at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Elmdale.
Leo was born in Spring Hill to Christopher and Anna (Rausch) Blonigen. He married Erma Funk on May 31, 1949 at Immaculate Conception Church in New Munich. The couple farmed in St. Martin until 1953, then farmed in Elmdale Twsp. Leo was a WWII veteran, a member of the Upsala Legion Post #350, Swanville VFW Post #6037, 50 year member of Catholic Aid Association, and St. Edward's Catholic Church.
Leo is survived by his wife; sons, Ralph "Burr", Little Falls, Robert (Mary Jane), Bowlus, Gerald (Sharon), Holdingford, David, Staples, Charles, Holdingford, Steven (Kathy), Elmdale, Tom (Edith), Grey Eagle, and Patrick (Kristine) Bowlus; 16 grandchildren, and brother and sisters, Christopher (Amanda), Paynesville, Sr. Mary Adella Blonigen, O.S.F., Flensburg, Marcella (Leo) Gondringer, Avon, Agnes (Richard) Rothstein, Richmond, and Catherine Hommerding, Cold Spring.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant grandson; brothers and sister, Claude, Joseph, and Mary Becker, and brothers-in-law, Arthur Hommerding and Clem Becker.
