Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose for Cyril Schwieters who died Wednesday at Pine Villa Care Center in Melorse. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Joseph's Society and the Knights of Columbus, Council #1633 will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. on Friday.
Cyril Schwieters was born in New Munich to Joseph and Catherine (Hallermann) Schwieters. He was united in marriage to Olivia Pundsack on October 24, 1944, in New Munich. The couple farmed in the New Munich area until 1985 when they moved to Melrose. He was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, St. Joseph's Society in New Munich and the Melrose Knights of Columbus, Council #1633. Cyril enjoyed attending auctions, fishing and going on casino trips.
Survivors include his wife, Olivia Schwieters of Melrose; children, Alice Breitbach (Math) of Elrosa, David Schwieters (Dolores) of St. Cloud, Karen Hemmesch (Math) of Paynesville, Ruth Koetter (Richard) of St. Cloud, Joe Schwieters (Sharon) of Greenwald, Irene Zierden (Roger) of St. Joseph, Norman Schwieters (June) of St. Francis, Rueben Schwieters (Paula) of New Munich, Patrick Schwieters (Cheryl) of New Munich, Mark Schwieters (Karla) of Melrose and Joyce Mauel (Richard) of St. Cloud; 32 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Emma Winter (Edwin) of Holdingford and Bertha Metzger of Westmont, IL.
Cyril was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry, Boniface, Norbert, Gilbert and Roman Schwieters; sister, Clara Bugh.
