Donald Michael Essler, 58, of New Hope, died Sept 30, 2003, at North Memorial Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Hope. The Rev. Robert Hazel officiated. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, New Hope, Minn. with full military honors.

Donald was born on May 2, 1945, in St. Cloud to Michael G. and Susan R. (Paul) Essler. He served in the US Navy from 1965 - 69 serving overseas and in Vietnam. He served in the US Naval Reserves from 1970 - 94 retiring as a Senior Chief with CINPACT FLEET. He has been employed with the National Weather Service in Chanhassen since 1976. He received his HAM radio operator license this past year. He owned E&A Enterprise since 1994, a video service. He was a member of St. Joseph's parish in New Hope, Life Member of the VFW Post 428, NERA and Westphal American Legion of Robbinsdale, Minn.

Survivors include his wife Myrna, son Ehren and daughter Angela all of New Hope, sisters Yvonne Ahles of St. Cloud, Fronie Ripka, Kathryn Borgmann, Rose Walker and Anna Mae Haskamp all of Sauk Centre, and brother Felix Essler (Judy) of Kenmare, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Aloys, Henry, Joseph and sister Marie Welters. Arrangements were made by the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
