Gerald "Gary" Breitbach, age 51 of Elrosa, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. Rev. Tony Kroll and Rev. Leroy Scheierl officiated with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Gary Breitbach was born Feb. 12, 1955, in Sauk Centre, to Herbert and Josephine (Majerus) Breitbach. On May 18, 1984, he married Deborah Krick at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He was a lifelong resident of Elrosa and was serving as the city's mayor. He was the president of Breitbach Construction Company in Elrosa. He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Elrosa Baseball Club and Elrosa Commercial Club, was a retired member of the Elrosa Fire Department and a former member of the Belgrade Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Deb Breitbach of Elrosa; three children, Dustin Breitbach, Danielle Breitbach and Dacia Breitbach; father, Herbert (Margaret) Breitbach of Elrosa; sisters and brothers, Judy (Richard) Detloff of Brooten, Ron (Karen) Breitbach of Elrosa, Dick (Sharon) Breitbach of Starbuck, Mark (Brenda) Breitbach of Elrosa, Sandra (Nick) Glieden and Barb (Brian) Anderson, all of Belgrade and Mary Kay (Lenny) Illies of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Breitbach. Serving as casket bearers were Marty Gjerde, Bob Jones, Kevin Weller, Doug Mohs, Mike Hill and Gordy Yarke. Cross bearer was Mike Gross and scripture bearer was Cheryl Kampsen. Honorary bearers were Elrosa Saints Baseball Team, Elrosa Fire Department and Gary's Golf Buddies. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Hospice and St. Michael's Hospital Foundation in Sauk Centre. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
