Edna M. Marthaler, age 81, of Sauk Centre died peacefully Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at her home. A memorial service was held Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Sauk Centre, with Rev. James Statz officiating. Ashes were interred in her husbands gravesite.
Edna Marthaler was born on July 21, 1922, in Pierz, Minn., to Louis W. and Anna (Buesseler) Kummet. She married Paul Marthaler on Aug. 15, 1964, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. She was a graduate of St. Scholastica College in Duluth, Minn. Since her marriage she had resided in Sauk Centre. Edna was a librarian for St. Johns University and the Bryant Library in Sauk Centre. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and Senior Citizens Quilting Group.
Survivors include her brother, Leo Bud Kummet (Lois) of Phoenix, Ariz.; and sister, Cleon VanderVennet of Moline, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Marthaler on Nov. 2, 1984; and sister, Rita Graham. Cross bearer was Mary Ann Polipnick. Urn bearer was Sister Andre Marthaler. The family requests that memorials are sent to Poor Clare Monastery at 421 Fourth Street South, Sauk Rapids, MN 56379, where Paul Marthalers sister, Mother Mary Peter is the presiding Mother of the convent.
