He was born July 16, 1953, at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in Oceanside, Calif., to Daniel and Arlene (Adrian) Welle. He was baptized at Oceanside. Brian took his first plane ride at the age of two and a half weeks when he returned to Albany. Brian lived in Albany and attended school there until 5th grade when his family relocated to Sauk Centre. He was confirmed in Sauk Centre and attended school there through his senior high school year. As a high school student, he competed and excelled at distance running. He was also involved in drama and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Following high school graduation, Brian attended St. Cloud State University where he ran cross country and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.

Upon completion of college, Brian was employed in sales with Wilson Meats until entering Federated Mutual Insurance's training program in Owatonna. Following his training, he was assigned to a sales territory in Worthington. While living in Worthington, Brian married Gail Davis of Crookston, Aug. 19, 1978, at Mendenhall Presbyterian Church in East Grand Forks. On March 25, 1980, Brian became the proud father of Aaron Michael Welle. On Dec. 1, 1981, Brian and his family moved to Bemidji, when he was promoted to district marketing manager for Federated Insurance. His sales group was recognized repeatedly for outstanding performance earning Brian numerous awards and trips. On Jan. 7, 1983, Brian and Gail were blessed with a second son, Jared Andrew Welle. In July of 1990, Brian and his family relocated to Fergus Falls, MN where he worked as an independent insurance agent until 1998 when he achieved his lifelong dream of establishing a highly successful insurance agency, Midwest Insurance Agency, with partner, Don Williams. He thoroughly enjoyed working with his coworkers at the agency as well as with his clients until the time of his death.

Besides his family, Brian's first love was sports. He was an avid fan of many sports and possessed an uncanny memory for historical sporting facts. In addition to coaching his son's little league baseball and youth hockey teams, he served as president of the Fergus Falls Youth Hockey Association. For several years he teamed up with Jeff Swedberg to provide color commentary for Otter Boys High School Hockey games via a local radio station. Brian also served as president of the local chapter of the Sertoma Club. Brian took great pleasure in traveling, with his destination of choice being Las Vegas where he engaged in his favorite pastimes of playing blackjack and wagering on sports. Annual trips to watch the Twins play at various baseball parks around the country with his father and brothers were also high points. Other proud moments for Brian included his son, Jared, graduating recently from St. Cloud State University, and Aaron, beginning his first engineering job.
