Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin for John M. Mehr, age 88, of St. Martin, who died on Friday, May 30, 2003 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, MN. The Rev. Julian Schmiesing OSB, Rev. Henry Miller OSC, Rev. Joseph Miller and Rev. Robert Wieber OSB will concelebrate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call between 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday at the Daniel - Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church in St. Martin. Parish prayers will at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home in Paynesville.
John was born on January 11, 1915 in Zion Township, Stearns County, MN to Michael and Ann (Schmitz) Mehr. He married Leona C. Miller on Nov. 18, 1940 in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill, MN. He farmed in Zion Township all of his life. He was a member of St. Martin parish, St. Joseph Men's Society, St. Benedict's Society and Knights of Columbus Council #3820.
He is survived by his wife, Leona of Albany; children, Roger (Veneel) of Twin Falls, Idaho, Betty (Harvey) Toenies of Mora, MN, Ralph (Ann) of Paynesville, Janice (Bill) Schoenberg of Hancock, Ruth (Bill) Heitke of Paynesville, Karen (Gene) Thul of Alexandria, Louise Mehr (Rick Haines) of Cold Spring, Joyce Strodtman of Denver, Colo.; 25 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother, Frank of St. Martin, and sisters, Ida Schaefer and Helen Wieber, both of Richmond, Anna Mae Hauppert of Ellsworth, Wisc., and Esther Libbesmeier of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by, his parents; brothers, Math, Bernard, and Jacob; grandson, Brian Barten, and son-in-law, David Barten. Arrangements are with the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
