Irene R. Schaefer of St. Cloud and formerly of Sauk Centre, passed away Feb. 13, 2008, at St. Benedict's Senior Community. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 16, at St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Cloud. Burial was in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud.
Irene was born to the late Lucas and Marie (Holthaus) Dingmann in Farming Township, Stearns County. She married Herbert Schaefer on Oct. 8, 1941, in Cold Spring. Irene farmed with her husband near Belgrade and Sauk Centre area and then moved to St. Cloud in 1963. Later, Irene was employed at Tempo, Stearns Manufacturing and St. Cloud State University. She was a member of Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella and St. Mary's Cathedral. Irene enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafts and making rosaries. Irene also enjoyed traveling and flowers.
Irene is survived by her children, Jerry (Elaine), Dassel, Carol (Roger) Borgerding, Sauk Centre, Joan (Gene) Tamm, Albany, Dan (Ginny), Pierz, Jane (Joe) Miller, Lakeville, Mary Schaefer, Boston, Mass., Fred (Janel), Annandale, Shirley (Jon) Andersen-Schmidt, St. Cloud, Juleen Schaefer (Eleanor Simpson), St. Cloud; 31 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; sister Bernice Willenbring, Champaign, Ill.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert on July 5, 1984; daughter Lorraine VanBeck, December 17, 1999; infant daughter, Mary; sister, Veronica Schramel; brothers Claude, Andrew and Leo Dingmann.
