John F. Sauer, 59, West Fargo, N.D., died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at MeritCare Hospital. The funeral was Thursday, Jan. 4, at 10:30 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Fargo.
John Sauer was born July 10, 1947, in Alexandria, to Edwin and Frances Sauer. John grew up in West Union and graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1965. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He returned to Sauk Centre before moving to Savage. He married Donna Fry on July 3, 1976. They later moved to West Fargo. He worked as a mechanic for Industrial Builders for the last 20 plus years. His hobbies were karaoke and playing the guitar. John was a member of the Catholic Aid and the American Legion.
He is survived by two sons, Josh of Janesville, Wis., Jacob (April) of Moorhead; one daughter, Kari Phillips of Gary, Ind.; two grandchildren, Monika Sauer and Aria Sauer; mother, Frances of Osakis; two sisters, Judy (Roger) Virnig of Little Falls, Anne (Jim) Nathe of Osakis; three brothers, Dave "Willie" of Walcott, N.D., Jerry "Chopper" of Osakis, Mike (fiancee Ginny Bueckers) of Sauk Centre.
John was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Sauer in January 1995; and nephew, Daniel Viring. Pallbearers were Jody Nathe, John Terfehr, Keith Nelson, Vernon Virnig, Jim Dueker and Mike Schmidt.
