Arnold Kortenbusch
Arnold J. "Arnie" Kortenbusch, age 85 of Belgrade, formerly of Melrose, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008 at the Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Arnie Kortenbusch was born on April 27, 1922, in Melrose, to Anton and Angeline (Spaeth) Kortenbusch. He assisted his father with farming chores and his mother with household duties. In April of 1971, after both of his parents passed away, he became a resident of the Belgrade Nursing Home. He was an avid gardener; his green thumb was evident by the large garden the Belgrade Nursing Home had each year. One of his greatest joys and accomplishments was to plant and tend to the nursing home's garden. In addition, Arnie won purple ribbons for his plants in the Belgrade Rosebud Garden Club. He also enjoyed setting large puzzles, latch hooking, making rugs, going to the State Fair, touring cattle barns in Belgrade, and assisting in the nursing home's dining room, chapel and laundry. Last but not least, he was very fond of children. He had a special place in his heart for his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews. While visiting with family members, he could be found happily holding, carrying and playing with great-nieces and -nephews. This put a big smile on Arnie's face. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and the Belgrade Rosebud Garden Club.
Survivors include his sisters, Martha Ruehle of St. Cloud, Irene (Andrew) Blenker of Albany, Erma Bautch of St. Cloud and Marcella "Sally" Hinnenkamp of Melrose; sister-in-law, Beatrice Kortenbusch of Melrose; brother-in-law, Art Doll of New Munich; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Angeline Kortenbusch; brothers, Albert, Leo and Tony Kortenbusch; sisters, Dorothy Tiemann, Minnie Altendahl, Adeline Brickweg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry Tiemann, Norb Altendahl, Herm Brickweg, Len Ruehle, Jack Bautch, Al Hinnenkamp and Clara Doll.
Serving as casket bearers were Steve Kortenbusch, Florian Blenker, Ken Kortenbusch, Allen Altendahl, Jack Brickweg and Jim Tiemann. Serving as cross bearer was Sarah Nietfeld and scripture bearer was Doris Kahlhamer. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
