Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Joseph A. Soenneker Sr., 91, who died Sunday at Pine Haven Care Center. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by St. Bernard's Society of Catholic Aid at 8:30.
Joseph Soenneker Sr. was born in Melrose Township, Stearns County, to Henry and Mary (Wessel) Soenneker. He married Magdalen Wielenberg on Nov. 5, 1941, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Melrose. They farmed in Melrose Township before retiring in 1974. He entered Pine Haven Care Center in November 1998. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Bernard's Catholic Aid Council and Crosier Apostolate. He was a past member of the District 2046 school board and past secretary of the Melrose Farmers Public Service Co.
Survivors include his wife; children, Henry of Bluffton, Aloysius of St. Helen, Ore., Norbert of Clarkson, Ky., Joseph Jr. and David of Melrose, Mary Larson of Pope Valley, Calif., and Helen Abelseth of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Elizabeth, Ted, August, Mary Pohlmann, Sister Valeria, OSF, Sister Elizabeth, OSF, Sister Agnes, OSF, and Bishop Henry; and one grandchild.
