Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, Oct. 8 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose for Ida Spaeth who died Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Sunday and from 8-10:30 AM Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary will pray at 6:00 PM followed by parish prayers at 7:00 PM Sunday evening.
Ida Spaeth was born Aug. 2, 1921 in Freeport to William and Mary (Linn) Hoeschen. On May 29, 1946 she married Everhard "Abe" Spaeth at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Ida resided in Melrose at 1 West Riverside Avenue from 1959 to 2003. In 1959 Abe and Ida purchased the Thiers Bottling Company of Melrose which they operated as Spaeth Distributing until their retirement in 1985. Ida enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, social activities, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Carla Wells (Norm) of Dundas, Jeffrey Spaeth (Elizabeth Rose) of Minneapolis, Michelle Mehr (David) of St. Joseph, Cydney Spaeth of St. Cloud; ten grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and sister, Florence Ziwicki of Royalton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everhard "Abe" Spaeth; daughter, June Spaeth; brothers, Lambert Hoeschen and Louis Hoeschen; and sister, Esther Hoeschen. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
