The mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Sylvester (Syl) Welle, age 91 of Albany will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany. Syl died Wednesday at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. There will be a visitation Friday evening from 4-9:00 PM at the Seven Dolors Parish Center. The Albany American Legion post 482 will pray at 7:00 PM followed by Seven Dolors Parish Prayers at 8:00 PM and the St. Joseph's, Catholic Aid Society and the Knights of Columbus at 8:30 PM Friday evening at the church. Arrangements are being made by the Miller-Carlin-Brenny Funeral Home, Albany.

Syl was born March 5, 1914 in Freeport to Leo and Barbara (Lehner) Welle. He graduated from High School and attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He married Marie Terres in St. Martin, MN on February 16, 1942. Syl served in the U.S. Army during WWII, from 1942 until he was discharged in 1946. After the war, he returned to Albany where he sold automobiles with his father and brothers. In 1962 he opened Sly's Ford and operated that until he retired in 1978. Syl was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany, the St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Society, the Albany Knights of Columbus, the Albany American Legion, the Heritage Society and the Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association (MADA).

Syl is survived by his children, Joyce (LeRoy) Kohorst, Albany and Ruth (Charles) Lorsung, Lakeville. He is also survived by his brother, Dan Welle, Sauk Centre and his sisters, Odelia Hoffman, Two Harbors; Magdalen Anderson, Litchfield; and Marina Hohman, White Bear; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie on January 3, 2005, his brothers, John Welle, Roman Welle, Ervin Welle and his sisters, Evelyn Welle and Leona Ahles.
