Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2007 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Wilfred J. Gerding, age 78, who died Wednesday at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday (TODAY) and from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of Columbus will pray at 6:00 p.m. and Parish Prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
Wilfred was born in Elrosa, MN to Hubert and Rose Gerding. He married Mathilda Wengler on August 27, 1957 in Belgrade, MN. Wilfred worked at the Cold Spring Granite Company and retired in 1991. He enjoyed his grandchildren, spending time with family and friends, playing cards, dancing and reminiscing. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus and was a mass server and usher for funeral masses.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Mathilda; Mike of Cold Spring, Mark (Bon) of Scottsdale, AZ, Brenda (Curt) Nesse of Big Lake, Linda (Larry) Klein of St. Cloud, Lisa (Will) Cahalan of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Dana Proell, Sara Proell, Tara Proell, Mitchell Klein, Breanna Klein, Rachel Klein and ThaiLee Gerding; brothers and sisters, Elmer, Lillian, Raymond (Mary Ann), Robert (Rita) and Reuben (Valaria).
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin grandsons, Justin and Joshua Gerding; granddaughter, MayLee Gerding; sisters, Bertha and Bernice. A special THANKS to the St. Cloud Hospital and Rehab. Unit-especially, Doctors Reichl and Schlosser, for their special care and all their help.
