Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 1, 2005 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville, MN for Leona Appolonia Spanier age 84 of Paynesville, who died on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Kornois Manor Nursing Home in Paynesville. The Reverend Richard Leisen of St. Louis Catholic Church will be the celebrant. Entombment will be in the St. Louis Parish Mausoleum in Paynesville. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 31, 2005 from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville, and on Friday, April 1, 2005 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Christian Women and Daughters of Isabella will pray at 7:00 P.M. and St. Louis Parish Prayers will be at 7:30 P.M. at Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home on Thursday evening.
Leona was born on August 31, 1920 in the home that she lived most of her life at Spring Hill, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Ellering) Schoenberg. She married Joseph Spanier on October 25, 1943 at St. Michael's Catholic Church at Spring Hill. Six children were born to this union. The Spanier's farmed many years before moving to Paynesville in 1960. Her husband Joe died on May 11, 1996.
She is survived by: two daughters, Kathy (Lyle) Thomsen of Paynesville, MN, and Helen (James) Poepping of New Munich, MN, four sons, Wilfred (Jan) Spanier, Eldred (Joyce) Spanier and Joseph Jr. (Loretta) Spanier all of Paynesville, MN and Marvin (Debbie) Spanier of Conroe, TX, 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and three sisters Marie Bauer of Paynesville, Marlene (Dan) Jansen of Milaca, MN, and Laura (Urban) Waltz of Richfield, MN, three brothers Joseph Schoenberg of Spring Hill, MN, Edward (Audrey) Schoenberg of Litchfield, MN, and John (Tina) Schoenberg of Indianapolis, IN, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband Joseph, she was preceded in death by two sisters Katie Terharr and Ann Loehr and one brother Gilbert Schoenberg. Arrangements are with Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville, MN.
