Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Ralph J. Virden, age 87, of St. Cloud will be at 1:30 pm on Monday, April 9, 2007 at St. Peters Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Ralph died on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at his home. The Rev. Gregory Lieser will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph parish cemetery in Waite Park, MN. Friends may call between 4-9 pm on Sunday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 12:30 pm on Monday at the church. Waite Park American Legion Post 428 will meet at 6 pm on Sunday at the funeral home followed by Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622 at 6:30 pm and St. Peters parish prayers at 7 pm.
Ralph was born on April 1, 1920 in Waite Park to Andrew and Clara (Imdieke) Virden. He grew up in Waite Park and graduated from Technical High School. He married Marcella Marce Trappen on Dec. 28, 1940 in St. Augusta. He was employed as a physio-therapist at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Cloud for 37 years. He was a life member of NARFE, a member of Waite Park American Legion Post 428, F.O.E. Aerie 622, St. Peters parish, American Cribbage Congress Club 94 and the St. Cloud Bowling Hall of Fame. Ralph enjoyed being with family and will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He was a good bowler, avid card player and especially enjoyed playing cribbage. He was the Club Champion of the American Cribbage Congress Club # 94 2002-2003 and co-champion 2004-2005.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years Marce, children: Dick (Linda Larson) of Plymouth, Judy (George) Paul of Rice Lake, WI, Carol (Mike) Dinndorf of Fort Ripley and Tom (Donna Trewick) of Fulton, MO; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and brother Andy of Waite Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Joseph and Alfred.
