Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 7 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre for Rev. Lawrence Botz who died Wednesday at St. Michael's Hospital. Bishop John Kinney will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the church.

Father Botz was born on May 31, 1914, in Freeport to Conrad and Theresa (Dinkel) Botz. He was confirmed at St. Paul's Church on Oct. 16, 1927. He studied for the priesthood at Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio and was ordained there by Archbishop Giovanni Cicognani on May 26, 1940. His assignments have included the following: assistant pastor, St. Anthony Church in St. Cloud, chaplain at the St. Cloud VA Hospital and instructor at Cathedral High School, 1940-1945; pastor, St. Joseph Church, Grey Eagle, 1945-1954; pastor, Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church, Millerville, 1954-1967; pastor, Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Rockville, 1967-1970; pastor, Assumption Church, Morris, 1970-1982; pastor, Ave Maria Church, Wheaton, 1982 until his retirement from active ministry in 1989. He had resided in Elrosa until August when he moved to St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre. Father Botz was also involved in the following: served on the diocesan priests' senate and personnel board; chaplain for the Millerville and Morris Knights of Columbus; chaplain for the Daughters of Isabella; dean of the Morris Deanery; diocesan director of the Apostleship of Prayer. He enjoyed sports especially baseball, bowling, golf and some tennis.

Survivors include three sisters, Margaret Goude and Lauretta Korf of St. Paul and Ruth Herbst of Brainerd; two brothers, Conrad "Connie" (Jeanne) Botz of Chaska and Norbert of Sauk Centre; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Sylvester, Raymond and Richard Botz. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral Service of Sauk Centre.
