Leona C. Lieser, age 83, of Belgrade, died Friday at the Belgrade Nursing Home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade with Parish Prayers at 5 p.m., Christian Mothers Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue 8-10 a.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will be held in the church cemetery.
Leona Catherine Bertram was born November 11, 1918, in Spring Hill, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John and Katherine (Kortenbusch) Bertram. Leona grew up on a family farm near Spring Hill, where she attended a country school. On September 23, 1940, she was married to Mathew Lieser at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill. Following their marriage, they farmed near Lake Henry until 1974 when they moved to Belgrade. Mathew died November 7, 1993. Since May of 1990, Leona has lived at the Belgrade Nursing Home.
Leona is survived by her daughters; JoAnne (and Dr. William) Barrett of Marine on St. Croix, MN, Martha (and Wilfred) Hopfer of Richmond; 4 grandchildren, Edward, John, and William Hopfer, Keith Eibensteiner; 8 great-grandchildren, Mathew, Katie, Neil, Mitchell, Christopher, and Casey Hopfer, Ella and Jack Eibensteiner and sister, Rose Olmschenk of Albany.
