Mass of Christian burial will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids for Margaret Theisen, age 92, of Sauk Rapids, who died Saturday at her home. The Rev. Ronald Weyrens will officiate and burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church in Sauk Rapids. Sacred Heart Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella will pray at 6:00 p.m., followed by parish prayers at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.

Margaret was born October 12, 1914 in Wesley Iowa to Henry & Anne (Studer) Haverly. After graduating from high school she moved to Iowa City and worked for the editor of Better Homes and Gardens until she attended the University of Iowa School of Nursing. She came to the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud as a nurse, and met her future husband Earl Theisen. She served as an Army Nurse in WWII in England, Belgium, France, and Norway. She received the Bronze Star Medal of Honor for service as a surgical nurse in the Battle of the Bulge.

She returned to Minnesota and married Earl J. Theisen on November 29, 1945 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Cloud. She worked as a RN at St. Cloud Hospital for several years, and retired from the Veterans Hospital after 25 years of service in 1978. She loved her faith community, gardens and birds. She spent many summers with her grandchildren, and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, and served in the Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella, Meals on Wheels, and most recently as a member of the Prayer Chain.

Survivors include her sons, Michael H. of St. Cloud, Patrick J. (Anne) of Palmdale, CA; daughter, Mary Anne Theisen Mitchell of Sauk Rapids; grandchildren, Thomas Mitchell III of Los Angeles, CA, Michele Theisen-Arfsten, of Madison, WI, Eric J. Theisen of St. Cloud, Valerie Theisen of Burnsville. She has two great grandchildren, Tessa and Brian; sisters and brothers, Dorothy Healy of CA, Gladys Cink, Audra Haverly, Dennis, Kenneth and Paul Haverly all of Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl in 1980; and brothers, Clarence and Hugh. Memorials are preferred to Open Arms (food program for the metro area and So. Africa), Habitat for Humanity, and EWTN. Special thank you to Heartland Hospice and Sacred Heart Eucharistic Ministers.
