Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Gerhard Blenker, 96, who died Friday at St. Cloud Hospital. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Melrose, followed by St. Bernard's Society at 8:30.
Gerhard Blenker was born in Millwood Township to Bernard and Mary (Hellermann) Blenker. He married Thekla Hinnenkamp on Sept. 20, 1932, in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Melrose. The couple farmed northeast of Melrose in Millwood Township. He retired in 1967 and moved to Melrose, where he lived for 30 years, until moving to Das Goldene Wohnheim in New Munich in July 1997. Since May 1999, he had been a resident of Pine Villa Care Center, Melrose. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Bernard's Society.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Evelyn Elfering of St. Rosa, and Marcy Schmidt of Holdingford; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by one grandson; and sisters and brothers, Marie Tiemann, Veronica and Rose Nietfeld, Joseph, Bernard and Alphonse.
