SAN ANTONIO - Five parishioners at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in San Antonio were presented the Guardian Angel Award by the Rev. J. Dennis Murphy, pastor.

The recipients are Mary Louise and Francis Blommel, Shirley and John Vincent and Michael McNamara.

Guardian Angels are members of the parish whose ministry to the church is outstanding

BLOMMEL, Francis J., 80, died November 17, 2011. He was a retired carpenter with Gude Brothers Construction.

Mr. Blommel was born June 10, 1931, in Dade City, Fla. He was a longtime active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in San Antonio, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army and received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He served his community as a San Antonio City Commissioner from 1971-1977 and more than 25 years as a volunteer umpire for the Dixie Youth League, prompting the City of San Antonio to name the original Dixie Youth League baseball field, in the city park, the "Francis Blommel Field."

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Louise; five children and their spouses, Barbara Blommel Whalen and Patrick, Ricky Blommel and Julie, Mary Jean Blommel Darnall and Miles, Paul Blommel and Donna, David Blommel and Lori. Also surviving are 23 grand-children and five great- grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at a visitation and rosary service 5-7 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2011, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in San Antonio. A celebration of life Mass will be at 10 am. Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in San Antonio with his nephew, Father John Hays, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic cemetery in San Antonio, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Pasco Hernando Hospice, 37445 Clinton Ave., Dade City, FL 33525.
