Otto H. Wiener, age 97 of Sauk Centre, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Todd Schneider officiated with interment following in St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery in Padua.

Otto Wiener was born Feb. 12, 1911, on the home farm, near Padua, in Getty Township, Stearns County, to Martin and Rose (Trettle) Wiener. On June 14, 1938, he married Christine Fiedler at Annunciation Catholic Church in Mayhew Lake. The couple farmed near Padua with his family. Since January of 2006 he had resided at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre. Otto never really retired, as he maintained a life-long interest in dairy and grain farming. He had a love of the land, enjoyed farming with his brother, Adolph, and planted many trees. He enjoyed big game hunting for deer, elk, antelope, moose and bear. He also enjoyed trapping, especially pocket gophers. He had an intense desire to learn and enjoyed reading, and was a rock hound that loved agates. Visiting with his family, grandchildren and friends were special times for Otto. As a father and grandfather, he was a man of wisdom and integrity, who loved the Lord and he passed on his gift of faith to his children and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten and Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus in Sauk Centre.

Survivors include five children, Richard (Marie) Wiener of Rochester, Carol (Gene) Bromenshenkel of Duluth, David (Janet) Wiener of Sauk Centre, M. Joelle (Ron) Moening of Melrose, Kathleen (Jim) Sogge of Paynesville; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Fiedler of Sauk Centre and Leone Niehaus of Grass Valley, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Christine Wiener on April 6, 1966; son, Thomas Otto Wiener; brothers, Fred, Sylvester and Adolph Wiener; and sisters, Lucine Niehaus and Sr. Mary Christine Wiener, OSF. Casket bearers were Steven Bromenshenkel, Nathan and Adam Wiener, Darren, Jason and Ryan Moening. Cross bearer was Rhonda Carlin, scripture bearer was William Moening, lectors were Paula Mayer and Rachel Sogge, gift bearers were William Moening, Nicholas and Ella Carlin, eulogy and farewell by Ryan Moening and Kathleen Sogge. Honorary bearers were Christopher, Jeremy, and Jim Sogge, Tom Wiener, Neil Bromenshenkel and Tim Carlin. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
