Rogaria S. Austing, 84, of Melrose died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, at the Melrose Area Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Aug. 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Ken Thielman officiating. Interment followed at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in St. Rosa.
Rogaria Austing was born April 10, 1921, in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minn., to Gerhard and Katherine (Hoppe) Stoermann. She was united in marriage to Bernard "Ben" Austing on Oct. 24, 1939, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. The couple farmed near St. Rosa for 40 years. In 1989 Rogaria moved to Melrose. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, St. Rosa Christian Mothers, St. Rosa Catholic Aid and a member and past president of Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, visiting with friends, crocheting, quilting and seeing all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Melvin Austing (Judy) of Inver Grove Heights, Carol Stangler (Maurice) of Melrose, Kathy Funk (Larry) of Sauk Centre, Patty Klaphake (Jim) of Cold Spring, Linda Beuning (Bernie) of St. Cloud, Ron Austing (Toni) of St. Rosa, Marilyn Breth (Jerry) of St. Cloud and Karen Mueller (David) of St. Rosa; daughters-in-law, Dorothy Austing of St. Rosa and Carole Austing of Grey Eagle; 31 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Julitta Austing of Albany, Irene Pundsack of St. Cloud, Rose Pundsack of Melrose, Boniface Stoermann (Delphine) of Holdingford, Robert Stoermann (Sylvia) of Holdingford and John Stoermann of St. Rosa.
Rogaria was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard "Ben" Austing; sons, Ervin Austing and Richard Austing; grandson, Spencer Austing; brothers, Bernard and Linus Stoermann. Serving as casket bearers were Jeff Austing, Scott Austing, Brian Austing, Jason Funk, Kyle Klaphake, Reed Breth, Cole Beuning and Ben Austing. Serving as cross bearer was Jodi Pohlmann and scripture bearer was Vicki Sadlowsky. Honorary bearers were Jason Mekalson, Jean Hellermann, Karen Wensmann, Cindy Schmiesing, Kathy Nix and Angie Deters. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
