Winifred C. Maus, age 81, of Melrose died Friday, July 30, 2004 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Winifred Maus was born Jan. 3, 1923 in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minn., to Henry and Margaret (Wiebolt) Klaphake. She married Wendelin B. Maus May 7, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. They farmed near Meire Grove until moving to Melrose in 1956. They owned and operated the Melrose Locker together until 1975. She lived at Pine Villa Care Center since August of 2003. Winifred enjoyed playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling them with sweets or a Dairy Queen treat. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, St. Elizabeth's Society, and a life member of the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.
Winifred is survived by her three sons, James (Alvina) Maus, Mark (Bonita) Maus, and Mike (Lou Ella) Maus all of Melrose; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Ervin (Virginia) Klaphake, Vangie (Frank) Hartung, and Tony (Alice) Klaphake, all of Melrose.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wendelin on Feb. 24, 1981; son, Charles Maus on July 28, 1953; and grandson, Joshua Maus on Nov. 23, 2001.
Casket bearers were David, Wayne, Neal and Karl Klaphake, Donny and Karl Klaphake. Honorary bearers were Marie Rademacher, Betty Pohlman, Irene Tiemann, June Zirbes, Lilian Decker, Denise Rieland, Peggy Pooler and the St. Michael's Homecare Staff. Cross bearer was Kirsten Maus and scripture bearer was Ben Maus. Arrangements were made with the Patton-Schad Funeral and Cremation Services of Melrose.
