Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2004 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Lorraine E. Backes, age 78, who died peacefully Wednesday at her home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Sunday, and from 9 - 10:30 Monday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. St. Boniface Christian Women and the Cold Spring Legion and VFW Auxiliaries will pray at 4:30 p.m. Sunday evening.
Lorraine was born in St. Cloud, MN to Louis and Elizabeth (Barg) Klein. She married Pierre J. Backes on August 21, 1946 in St. John's Abbey Church, Collegeville, MN. She was a homemaker all her life. Lorraine enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling, playing cards and the company of family and friends. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Christian Women, Cold Spring American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries and WIBC.
Survivors include her children; Douglas (Mary) of Honolulu, HI, Charles (Gail) of Cold Spring, MN, John (Sue) of Ponsford, MN, Patrick (Irene) of Cold Spring, MN, Barbara of St. Cloud, MN and Ronald (Michelle) of Lindstrom, MN; brother, Clifford Klein and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pierre (9-26-96); brothers, Lawrence, Reynold and Donald and her sister Elizabeth.
