Walter "Wally" C. Rieland
Walter "Wally" C. Rieland, 77, of St. Cloud, died Feb 19, 2003, at St. Cloud Hospital. A funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Cloud. Interment was in the Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum, St. Cloud.
Wally was born to Paul and Margaret (Kampsen) Rieland on March 30, 1925 in Freeport, Minn. He married Lorraine Overman on April 26, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was self employed as a feed grinder in Freeport from 1949-56. He owned Wally's Phillip's 66 Service Station & Towing, St. Paul, Minn., from 1956-68, and then owned South Town Liquor, St. Cloud, from 1968-73, from 1973-96 employed at Baston/Gilleland Chevrolet, from 1996-2002 he was employed at APH Auto Value. Wally enjoyed gardening, watching the Twins and the Vikings. He loved the outdoors and fishing. He also enjoyed crafts and working on motor vehicles. Wally had a great sense of humor and shared it with all.
Wally is survived by his wife, Lorraine; daughter, Sandi (Bob) Schulzetenberg, St. Cloud; sons, Keith (Terri), Shakopee; Jim "Butch" (Tanya), Sartell; brother, Celestine, New Munich; sisters, Sister Claude Rieland O.S.B., Lacey, WA; Irma Schoen, Clintonville, WI; Lorraine Zierden, Shawano, WI; Dorene Terres, Melrose; Lucille Trull, Littleton, CO; Geri Dahle, Denver, CO; grandchildren, Chad, Ryan, Megan, Travis Schulzetenberg, Aaron and Ashley Rieland, Holly King, Adam and Brittany Rieland; four step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Willie and sisters Irene Downing and Marie Meehan. Arrangements by the Williams Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
