Elisabeth Gross

(July 17, 1827 - April 26, 1904)

Her baptism sponsors were Elisabeth Fuchs and Michael Gross.

Sometime before her 14th birthday she emigrated with her parents to the United States of America and settled in the vicinity of Westphalia, Michigan. And six years after arriving in Saint Mary's parish, 20-year-old Elisabeth Gross married Johann Peter Schneider, a native of Prussia and either 13 or 16 years her senior.

At the time that the 1850 Federal census was taken, they were living in Lyons township, Ionia county, Michigan, where her husband worked as a potash boiler. However, the family still attended church at Saint Mary's in Westphalia.

By the time that the 1860 Federal census was taken, Johann Peter Schneider and Elisabeth Gross had moved to a farm in Dallas township.

Approximately three years after the birth of their youngest son, Johann Peter died and Elisabeth raised their 6 surviving children by herself.
