Henry J. Kampsen, age 87, of New Munich, died Tuesday, July 10th at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 13th at Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church in New Munich. Rev. Art Hoppe will be officiating, with burial following in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose, and Friday from 9:30 until time of service at the church in New Munich.
Henry Kampsen was born November 14, 1913 in New Munich to Bernard and Agnes (Blommel) Kampsen. He married Marie Boeckermann on June 24, 1940 at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rosa. The couple farmed in Oak Township, Stearns County for 58 years. He was a mink rancher for 40 years, and was a hobby beekeeper for 60 years. They retired from farming in 1978, but continued to live on the farm. He has resided in Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose since April, 1998. His hobbies included fishing, caring for ducks, geese, and other wildlife. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, the Minnesota Association of Beekeepers, Minnesota Fur Traders Association, Wildlife and Game Association, Greenwald Rod and Gun Club, and New Munich Conservation.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Kampsen of New Munich; children, Virginia Meyer and her husband, Elmer of Meire Grove, Marcella Mareck and her husband, Dennis of Albany, Clarence Kampsen and his wife, Renee of New Munich, Jeanette Kalthoff and her husband, Melvin of Spring Hill; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Adella Hiltner; grandson, Sherwood Meyer. Serving as casket bearers will be Michael and Charlotte Meyer, Paul and Karen Mareck, Beth and Tracy Kampsen, Carrie and Sherrie Kalthoff. Cross bearer will be Jesse Kampsen; scripture bearer will be Ben Kalthoff; rosary bearer will be Katie Kalthoff; readers will be Michelle Fuchs and Julie Roerick; petitions will be read by Rachael Kalthoff; Mass servers will be Adam Kalthoff and Robyn Kalthoff. Honorary bearers will be friends and neighbors.
