Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church for James Nierenhausen, 71, who died Wednesday at his home.Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Ripley.Friends may call an hour before services Monday at the church in Avon.Arrangements were made by Brenny Funeral Home, Albany.

James Nierenhausen was born in Roscoe to Frank and Sophie (Koppy) Nierenhausen. He married Marcella Zierden on Sept. 23, 1952, in New Munich. He was a 20-year veteran and had spent 11 years in the U.S. Air Force and nine years in the U.S. Army. He was in the Korean and Vietnam wars and received the Purple Heart during the Korean War while on the front lines. He was a self-employed carpet installer for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife; daughters and son, Bernadette Trombley of Fridley, Joan Soderbeck of Shoreview, Mary of San Jose, Calif., Diane Smith and Thomas of Avon, and Robert of Tucson, Ariz.; mother, of Woodbury; 24 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters and brothers, Audrey Podgorski of Las Vegas, Mary Alice O'Connor of Maplewood, Eileen Klaas and Lloyd of St. Paul, Walter of Minneapolis, and Donald of Pine City.
