Marvin Lensing, age 88 of Belgrade, passed away Friday evening at his home.
Marvin was born to Herman and Elizabeth (Froehle) Lensing on May 28, 1918 in Bancroft, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Valeria Eveslage, September 7, 1948 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, in Greenwald. Marvin served his country during WWII from 1941 to 1945, in the Army. After the service he worked as a mechanic in Elrosa, and in 1950 purchased a farm in Belgrade. After 35 years of farming he retired and moved to Belgrade. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, helping out on the farm, mowing his lawn, caring for his flowers, and watching his grandchildren play sports. Marvin was a member of American Legion Post #612 in Lake Henry, Catholic Aid, Knights of Columbus, St. Francis de Sales Cemetery Board, and active in his church. Marvin will always be remembered as a faithful Christian and dedicated Dad, who raised his family of seven children as a widower. Sharing the fish he caught with the town people was his pride, along with helping on the farm, he also enjoyed card playing and going to morning coffee.
Marvin is survived by his seven children, Arlene "Lena" (Terry) Strehlow, Clear Lake; Lois (Rick) Humbert, Bloomington; Merl (Rosie) Lensing, Moundsview; Mary Kay (Herb) Hess, Melrose; Roy (Sandy) Lensing, Belgrade; Gary (Ginny) Lensing, Washington; Jon (Cindy) Lensing, Little Canada; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosella "Sally" Breitbach, Belgrade, and Colette Illies, of Spicer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Valeria, in 1961; grandchild Hannah Lensing in 1996; his parents; five brothers, John, Cletus, Herman, Art, and Frankie; and three sisters, Louise Woeste, Evelyn Petermeier, and Anna Pearson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday September 12, at 11:00 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Belgrade. Interment will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #612, of Lake Henry. Friends may call at the church in Belgrade from 4:00 to 8:30 pm on Monday September 11, and two hours before the service on Tuesday. Parish prayers will be held at 7:30 pm at the church, and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm.
