Services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove for Verena Marthaler who died Sunday at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 pm on Wednesday and from 8 to 9:30 am on Thursday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Mary's Society, Holy Rosary Society and Poor Soul's Society will pray at 7 pm followed by parish prayers at 8 pm Wednesday evening.
Verena Marthaler was born in Meire Grove to Bernard and Rose (Imdieke) Meyer. She married Albert H. Marthaler on June 30, 1931 in Meire Grove. Verena was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove, St. Mary's Society, Holy Rosary Society, Poor Soul's Society, and St. John's Catholic Aid Society.
Survivors include her children, Marlene Reller (Tom) of Melrose and Joel Marthaler (Judi) of St. Cloud; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Alma Meyer of Melrose and Marie Korf of Elrosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Marthaler on February 14, 1986; sisters and brother, Thecla Caspers, Edwin Meyer, and Marina Botz.
